Finding hope, one day at a time

First chemo: Almost uneventful (and that’s a good thing)

My first chemotherapy session was, thankfully, almost uneventful – which, in this situation, is exactly what you hope for.

The staff were lovely and guided me through the process. They started with an injection into my left thigh, followed by an attempt to insert a cannula into my left arm. Unfortunately, that one didn’t cooperate, so we moved on to the right arm instead. No drama, no fuss, and eventually we got there.

Once everything was in place, the various drugs went through without any problems. There was just a little delay at the end when one of the prescribed medications for my large party bag to take home wasn’t quite right, so I had to wait for an hour or so while a porter brought the correct one over.

Apart from that, the whole experience was remarkably calm.

I felt fine afterwards and, even better, remained fine throughout the evening and overnight.

One small milestone ticked off: the first treatment was done.
