I survived another night, so things are looking up IMHOš
The upset stomach continues, so Iām back on a drip for fluids. Iāve also developed a skin rash, and my chest has now been āSharpiedā with what looks like a pirate treasure map. š«£ The doctor will be round later to review everything, but all current issues are thought to be chemo-related. Not normal, obvs, but apparently not unheard of either.
I had a visitor in the night⦠a rather fat little mouse who popped in and out a few times but didnāt trouble me for anything! And from about 4am a blackbird sang away in the building site outside my window⦠It was actually quite nice to be reminded that nature carries on regardless. (As long as the next wildlife sighting isnāt a cockroach⦠š«£)
The staff here continue to be absolutely wonderful and go above and beyond š I drank tea from a proper mug (luxury!) and breakfasted on real cornflakes (I politely declined the sugar⦠but it was added anyway š¤£
Breakfast review: āāāāā (lost a star for no Bucks Fizz)
The oncologist has been to see me. It looks like Iāll be here for at least another couple of days while they continue treatment, then theyāll review my chemo plan and tweak it as needed.
Iām still waiting for the C.diff test results, which also means they canāt give me anything for the stomach cramps just yetš„ŗ
The saline drip has now been swapped for a pint of electrolytes because my phosphate and calcium levels have dropped too low. (Think āGatoradeā⦠but much less refreshing š¤£)
One thing I really appreciate is how well the nurses explain everything. They tell me what theyāre testing for, what theyāve found, and exactly how theyāre correcting it. It makes everything feel much less scary.
The electrolyte infusion runs more slowly, so the IV alarm is going off far less often, which is a bonus! The nurse has also offered to put a new cannula in a better spot later, and I think Iāll take him up on that as itās getting rather tiresome having to keep my arm straight all the time.
Blood sugars are behaving themselves too. (And no⦠itās not because they made me eat my cornflakes with sugaršš¤£)
Hey ho⦠onwards and upwards ā¤ļø
