Once again, I could not sleep. So, around dawn, tentatively stepped outside the confines of my room for the first time since I arrived and peeped into the little garden across the corridor – there was a tiny finch in the tree singing its little heart out 💛
Breakfast review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
A definite improvement on yesterday: no unwanted sugar thrown on the cornflakes, and a peach yoghurt complete with its own teaspoon. Sadly, the “Bucks Fizz” didn’t appear to contain any champagne, hence the lost star, but it was cold and refreshing. Tea arrived in a proper mug an hour later… better late than never.
I decided to give myself an impromptu bed bath yesterday evening by knocking a jug of cold water all over myself. Initially it was very refreshing, but things became a little awkward when I had to press the Nurse Call button and insist, “It’s just water… honestly!” 😂
I was taken off the intravenous drip last night, so I managed a couple of hours’ peace now that “Ivy” and I have been separated. 🤫 Ivy has been like a really annoying 6’4″, skinny-as-a-rake friend who moans all the time, yet insists on following you everywhere. Although she spent the night towering over my bed looking sulky, I’m pleased to report she’s now gone off somewhere else and will have to learn to do her own thing without me!
The doctor dropped by earlier and I’ll be here until Monday at the earliest. I’m currently at the “nadir” of this chemo cycle, so my white blood cells are lower than they’d like, but they should recover over the weekend with the right care and rest. My calcium is a bit low too, but that’s easily sorted with medication, so not a major concern. I still have a sore throat, but the mouth ulcers have completely healed and the chest rash is slowly improving too.
I keep reminding myself: “I have felt better, and I WILL feel better.” ❤️
PS: Best of luck to everyone with school leavers at home for the next few weeks! Remember, September will be here before you know it… but only you can decide when to buy those new school shoes. Too early and they’ll be too small by September; too late and they’ll all be sold out! 🤣
